Privacy policy

We know naru handles deeply personal information: your goals, your patterns, and your commitments to yourself. We wrote this document with the user in mind and intentionally used plain language. If anything is unclear, please email us.


What we collect

  • Your email address when you sign up
  • As you engage with the app: the content of your conversations with naru. This includes your goals, reflections, and commitments. This is the core of what makes naru useful.
  • Your phone number, if you opt in to receive SMS notifications.
  • Basic usage data such as session timestamps and feature interactions.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell your data to anyone.
  • We do not use your conversations to train AI models.
  • We do not build behavioral profiles for the purpose of advertising.
  • We do not share your information with third parties except as strictly necessary to operate the service.
  • We do not share your mobile opt-in data or phone number with third parties for marketing purposes under any circumstances.

How your data is used

  • Your conversations are stored so naru can remember your goals and patterns across sessions.
  • We may analyze aggregate, anonymized usage patterns to improve the product. This never involves reading individual conversations.
  • Your email is used to communicate about naru: we may send product updates and occasional notes from the team. You can unsubscribe at any time.

Data retention and deletion

  • You can delete your account and all associated data at any time. When you delete, we delete within 30 days.
  • We don't hold onto your data after you've asked us not to.

Security

  • Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We use reputable infrastructure providers with their own rigorous security practices.
  • We operate on a principle of minimal access: only the people who absolutely need to see data to do their job can see it.
  • If there's ever a breach that affects your data, we'll tell you promptly and clearly.

Your rights

  • You have the right to access a copy of your data, correct inaccuracies, and delete everything.
  • If you're in the EU or UK, you have additional rights under GDPR/UK GDPR, including the right to data portability and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

Changes to this policy

  • If we make material changes, we'll notify you by email before they take effect.
  • We won't bury changes in a re-dated document. Meaningful changes get a real explanation.

SMS messaging and mobile information

  • If you opt in to receive SMS notifications from naru, we collect your mobile phone number solely for the purpose of sending you account-related notifications and reminders you have requested.
  • Your mobile phone number and any data obtained as part of your SMS opt-in will never be shared with or sold to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
  • We do not use your mobile information for any purpose other than delivering the SMS messages you have consented to receive.
  • You may receive up to ~7 messages per week; this varies based on your notification preferences. Message and data rates may apply depending on your mobile carrier plan.
  • You can opt out of SMS notifications at any time by replying STOP to any message or by updating your preferences in the app. Reply HELP for assistance.
  • Standard carriers supported. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
